Board of Trustees
Some of the primary responsibilities of the Board include adopting Township policies and ordinances, adopting the annual budget, approving certain expenditures and contracts, determining types and levels of services to be provided, appointments to various committees and commissions, and ensuring the general welfare of the residents. All Board members are elected to four year terms in the Presidential Election year and take office on November 20th.
The Board of Trustees meets the second and fourth Monday of each month (calendar) at 7:00 p.m. at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall, 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, Michigan. Minutes and agendas of previous meetings are available in the Documents & Forms section of our web site.

Board of Appeals
The DeWitt Charter Township Board of Appeals has the responsibility of hearing and deciding variance requests to the Zoning Ordinance, making interpretations of the Zoning Ordinance, addressing boundary questions related to zoning districts, and hearing appeals of administrative determinations or decisions.
If a petition has been filed, the Board of Appeals meets the third Wednesday of each month (calendar) at 7:00 p.m. at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall located at 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. Board of Review
The DeWitt Charter Township Board of Review meets three times a year (calendar) in the months of March, July and December. The March Board of Review meeting is held to review the Township’s Assessment Roll, and hear public appeals of assessments, classifications, and agricultural exemptions. The July and December Board of Review meetings are held for the correction of clerical errors, mutual mistakes of facts, and homestead appeals. Public notice is given for all meetings, which are held at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall located at 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. Construction Board of Appeals
The DeWitt Charter Township Construction Board of Appeals is responsible to hear appeals to decisions made by the Township Building Official and Construction Code variance requests. Meetings are scheduled as needed and are held at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall located at 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. DARA
The DeWitt Area Recreation Authority (DARA) is a joint recreation authority formed by DeWitt Charter Township and the City of DeWitt to provide comprehensive recreational programming for all ages. All recreational programming for the Township and the City is handled by DARA. DARA is governed by a six-member Board of Commissioners with each municipality appointing three members. The DARA Board of Commissioners meets the first Thursday of each month (calendar) at 7:00 p.m. at the DeWitt Community Center located at 16101 Brook Road, Lansing, MI. DeWitt District Library
The DeWitt District Library Board governs the District Library, which serves DeWitt Charter Township, the City of DeWitt and some of the neighboring townships. The District Library is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees with DeWitt Township and the City of DeWitt each appointing three members and Watertown Township appointing one. The Library Board of Trustees meets the second Thursday of each month (calendar) at 7:00 p.m. at the DeWitt Public Library located at 13101 Schavey Road, DeWitt, MI. Planning Commission
The DeWitt Charter Township Planning Commission advises and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding planning and zoning issues. One of the most important responsibilities of the Planning Commission is the development and periodic revision of the Township’s Comprehensive Development Plan. The Comprehensive Development Plan reflects the Township’s goals for the physical development of the Township through projected zoning, future land uses, and infrastructure development. The Planning Commission makes recommendations on Zoning Ordinance text and map amendments, proposed rezonings, Special Use Permits, preliminary plats and proposed developments. The Planning Commission also reviews and approves site plans.

Public Safety Committee
The DeWitt Charter Township Public Safety Committee is an advisory committee to the Board of Trustees. The Committee is responsible for addressing issues and special projects that develop from working with the Township’s Police and Fire Departments. The Committee meets the third Tuesday of January and then on an as-needed basis (calendar) at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall located at 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. Salary Compensation Commission
The DeWitt Charter Township Salary Compensation Commission is responsible for establishing the level of compensation for the Township’s elected officials. The Commission meets in odd numbered years and establishes the compensation levels for a two-year period. SCCMUA
The Southern Clinton County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCCMUA) is responsible for operating and maintaining the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the sanitary sewer collection systems for DeWitt Charter Township, the City of DeWitt, Bath Charter Township, and Watertown Charter Township. The Authority is governed by a ten-member Board of Commissioners. Membership on the Board is based on each municipality’s ownership of the facility. DeWitt Charter Township appoints five members, Bath and Watertown Charter Townships each appoints two members, and the City of DeWitt appoints one. The SCCMUA Board of Commissioners meets the third Tuesday of each month (calendar) at 5:30 p.m. at the Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 3671 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. Sanitary Sewer Board of Appeals
The DeWitt Charter Township Sanitary Sewer Board of Appeals is responsible for hearing appeals of decisions made by the Township regarding the classification of REU factors, the applicability of non-industrial cost recovery surcharges, and the revocation of licenses. Meetings are scheduled as needed and are held at the DeWitt Charter Township Hall located at 1401 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, MI. Sister City Community Board
DeWitt Charter Township and the City of DeWitt have entered into a sister city relationship with the City of Koka, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. This relationship is designed to foster citizen and cultural exchange programs between participants. The DeWitt Sister City Community Board shall keep informed of matters necessary to enhance the relationship between the communities, and shall make recommendations to the Township Board of Trustees and the DeWitt City Council concerning such matters. The Board consists of eight members, four residents appointed by the Township Supervisor and four residents appointed by the Mayor of the City.
