Property Taxes & Millage Rates

Important Taxpayer Information

As a taxpayer, you have the responsibility to pay taxes on real and personal property you own. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the responsibility for payment, nor constitute cause for cancellation of any penalty and interest if the tax becomes delinquent. It is also the taxpayer's responsibility to ensure that payment is made on the correct parcel, as a payment made on the wrong parcel cannot be refunded. There is no statutory authority for the Township to refund a tax that is owed.

Taxing Units & Millage Rates

DeWitt Charter Township serves residents within five school districts. The school district your property is located in determines the annual millage rates applied to calculate the taxes on your property. Real and personal property taxes are the combined total of school taxes (local, intermediate, community college, and state education), library, county taxes (operating and 911), county transit, and township taxes.

Property Tax Estimator

Property tax estimates by local unit and school district can be calculated online.

Enter the State Equalized Value (SEV) for future owners, or the Taxable Value (TV) for current owners; and select your county from the drop-down list provided. You will then be prompted to select your city, village or township along with your school district.

The Michigan Department of Treasury updates millage rates annually, based on the last year's approved L-4029 forms submitted by the taxing units. This tool provides reasonable estimates, not actual data.

Property Tax Calculation:

Taxable Value x Millage Rates / 1,000 = Tax
