Building Safety Month 2022

May 2022 marks the International Code Council's 42nd Annual Building Safety Month, an international campaign that raises awareness about building safety. This campaign reinforces the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes, and helps individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. Building codes are vital in protecting community’s citizens from disasters like fires, weather-related events and structural collapse. These codes are society's best way of protecting homes, offices, schools, manufacturing facilities, stores and entertainment venues.

This year’s theme is, “Safety for All: Building Codes in Action”.  Each week during the month of May a different topic is featured:

  • Week 1: Energy and Conservation
  • Week 2: Training the Next Generation
  • Week 3: Water safety
  • Week 4: Disaster Preparedness

We invite you to stop by the Building Department during business hours to pick up information and fun giveaways during the month of May.  More information can be found by going to the International Code Council’s website at
