Rebuilding I-69 from I-96 to Airport RoadWhat Is Being Done? The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest approximately $65 million to rebuild I-69 from I-96 to Airport Road, rebuild the interchanges at Francis and Airport Roads, and perform preventive maintenance and repairs to 13 bridges between the I-96/I-69 interchange and Airport Road.
Funding for this project is made possible through the Governor's Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at the fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.
How Will Traffic Be Affected? The majority of work for this project will take places in 2021-2022, with additional bridge maintenance in 2023. Notices will be sent out about lane and ramp restrictions as work progresses.
Work in 2021, will require lane closures in each direction to allow crews to safely build temporary pavement and crossovers to use in later stages of the project. Also in 2021, the westbound I-69 ramp to eastbound I-96 will be closed and detoured. There will be alternating single-lane closures and ramp closures in both directions in 2022.
For more information call the MDOT Lansing Transportation Service Center at 517-335-3754.

Fire TrainingYou may have noticed large fire apparatus training at Clark Corners over the last month. In an effort to continue enhancing our fire service, DeWitt Township Fire personnel went through a Driving Rodeo Competency Course to enhance their driving skills. The driving rodeo consisted of driving fire engines and the ladder truck through the skills course.
Highlighted fire service driving skills at this particular training were: • Diminished Clearance – Driving through a 100’ lane at a 10’ wide entrance and exiting the lane at 8’6” as the lane narrows without hitting any cones • Alley Dock - Backing into an alley dock and stopping the rear of the apparatus within 18” of the dock • Straight Lane - Driving 200’ feet ahead with the lane at 8’6”, stopping, and driving in reverse through the narrow lane backwards for 200’ • Serpentine – Driving forward between cones on the right side, then reverse through the course on the left side of the apparatus • Confined Space – Turning the apparatus around in a smaller space (50’ x 10’) • Off-Set Alley – Driving through a 10’ wide alley to another off-set alley at 10’ wide

Peddlers & PermitsPeddlers, or door-to-door solicitors, working within DeWitt Township need a permit from the Township. Schools, recognized charity or non-profit organizations, political candidates, or religious organizations do not require a permit. All peddlers, permitted or not, are required to respect the ordained hours of 9:00AM to 8:00PM, Monday through Saturday, for their operations.
As of today, there are four permitted peddlers currently permitted within DeWitt Township: Aspen Contracting, Aptive Environmental, Scoopy Doo's Old Fashion Ice Cream and Craneomatic Productions. You can always find the list of current active peddlers on the township website at https://www.dewitttownship.org/316/Peddlers-Solicitors-Transient-Merchant-L.
Should you be solicited and have concern about the legality of the peddler, ask to see their permit as they are required, by ordinance, to have it on their person. If you determine that the peddler is NOT a school, charity, non-profit, or a permitted for-profit business, PLEASE CALL 911 and report the situation with as much information as you can provide. It would be helpful to have name of the business, vehicle information, and a location where public safety authorities can respond.
Let’s help each other to keep our township safe!

Didn't Recieve a Summer Property Tax Bill? If you hold a mortgage and maintain an escrow account, estimated taxes are included with your monthly mortgage payment. This assures your mortgage holder that the property taxes will be paid and therefore, the tax bill is mailed to the mortgage company for handling. If a bill was not received, and you believe it should have been, visit the Township’s website to view or print your bill. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the responsibility for payment, nor constitute cause for cancellation of penalty and interest if the tax becomes delinquent.
