Non-Motorized Transportation - Webb Road Sidewalks

Earlier this month, DeWitt Township staff met with members of the Clinton County Road Commission (CCRC) to discuss the Township’s Non-Motorized Transportation Plan which was last updated in 2019. At the meeting, staff and Road Commission representatives discussed a general project timeline for design and construction to extend sidewalks along Webb Road, from Old US-27 to the City of DeWitt in 2023. This existing sidewalk gap is the last one remaining between the two communities and upon completion will provide residents greater mobility to move about the DeWitt area in ways other than by automobile.

As part of the project, the sidewalk extension is planned for both the north and south sides of Webb Road and each side will be 5-feet in width. The sidewalk additions will connect directly with the existing sidewalks in the City of DeWitt and adjacent subdivisions within the Township, for a seamless transition between the communities while also enhancing the quality of life for residents by offering greater internal mobility and proper pedestrian infrastructure for safer and healthier lifestyles.

Residents impacted by the proposed construction will be receiving a letter by mail providing them preliminary project information and timelines. The project engineering and construction contracting will be carried out through the Clinton County Road Commission.

Severe Weather Awareness Week

Severe Weather Awareness Week was March 20th – 26th highlighted by a statewide tornado drill on March 23, 2022. DeWitt Township has 4 tornado sirens within the Township located near the following intersections:

  • Howe Rd. and Schavey Rd.
  • Schavey Rd. and Appletree Ln.
  • Turner Rd. and Wellman Rd.
  • State Rd. and Wood Rd.

According to MIREADY, the State of Michigan has an average of 15 tornados per year. Most of the time through radar and observations, there can be a lead time of 10 to 15 minutes.

The following storm notice definitions are associated with tornadoes. Please take the necessary percussions when issued.

Tornado Watch:  A tornado is possible due to the weather conditions.

Tornado Warning:  A tornado has been sighted by a weather spotter or indicated on radar. Take shelter immediately with preference below ground. Stay away from large open spaces in buildings, use hallways, small rooms, or bathrooms.

Quarterly Sewer Bills & ACH Autopay

Quarterly sewer bills covering April, May, and June 2022 are due April 18, 2022. The flat-rate fee, per residential equivalent unit (REU), is $102 for 2022. The Township offers ACH Autopay as a convenient and free payment option for sewer accounts. Payment is processed via ACH from a designated checking or savings account by the Treasurer’s Office approximately five (5) days before the due date. Residents can also elect to receive paperless, e-billing versus postcard bills. Reach out to the Treasurer’s Office at 517-668-1411, to establish either of these convenient options for your sewer account.

Bank Bill Pay Timing

Residents utilizing their bank or credit union’s bill pay service should be mindful to allow ample lead time for mail delivery. Payment initiated from your financial institution’s website, is not an electronic fund transfer to the Township. Rather, your bank issues a check and mails it. When using your bank’s bill pay service, allow enough lead time for USPS mail delivery to avoid unnecessary late fees. DeWitt Charter Township does not honor postmark dates as paid on time.

Park Pavilion Rentals

Spring has sprung and Summer will be here before you know it! Now is the time to plan for your summer outing or event.  Picnic pavilions are available at Granger Meadows and Valley Farms parks; rentals start at $60 for residents/$80 for non-residents.
