New Voter Information CardAll registered voters in DeWitt Township will soon be mailed a new Voter Information Card indicating any district changes. This is required by law. When voters receive their new Voter Information Card, they should carefully look over the information as a number of residents will have had a change in their State, Federal, or local representation. While this card is not required for voting, as picture ID is acceptable, the card does contain important voting location and district information. Some residences may receive Voter Information Cards for voters that no longer live at those residences. The most common reason this happens is because voters either moved, and did not change their address on their Michigan driver’s license, or they have moved out of state and did not inform the Secretary of State’s Office, or their local clerk. If this happens, please mark "unknown" and place the ID card back for proper handling by the USPS.

Homeowner Tips: LightningBecause lightning can strike anywhere, it is beneficial for homeowners to consider electrical and surge protection devices on the interior and exterior of the home. Interior devices include surge protectors that can mitigate damage to many of the electric appliances and electronics in your home. Exterior devices include whole-house surge protectors and lightning protection systems. These devices provide the highest level of protection, require compliance with local building codes, and require professional installation. - Surge Protection Devices: A good electrical grounding system can protect electronics and electrical appliances from all but the most severe electrical surges or direct strikes. Surge protection devices are typically installed at point of use.
- Lightning protection systems: These systems use rods and cables to create a direct path for lightning to follow to the ground instead of moving through the house and its wiring. Consult a qualified contractor for installation, but note that lightning protection systems will not protect against lightning or power surge that enters through the telephone, cable, or electric lines to the house.
- Whole House Surge Protection Systems: This device is usually installed on the electric meter and helps protect appliances and electronic equipment in your house. If your local utility provider does not offer installation services, a qualified electrician can install this device.

Cemetery OrnamentationWhat can be placed at the grave of a loved one is a question we frequently answer. The Cemetery Rules and Regulations found on our website is the best reference for these questions. For many, just knowing that plants can be placed within 12 inches surrounding the monument, or that an urn (made of cement only), placed within that same 12 inches, answers their questions.
Any plantings and ornamentation are your responsibility to maintain. This includes securing your ornamentation against high winds or any other of mother nature’s climate events. Our maintenance crew is conscientious about the appearance of the cemeteries. Should a planting or ornamentation become unsightly, it will be removed to maintain the appearance of the cemetery. If after reviewing the Cemetery Rules and Regulations you still have questions, please call us at 517-668-0270.

Grass Clippings From Lawn Mowers Drivers start your lawn mowers! But, we remind you to avoid discharging your clippings onto the roadway. If grass clippings get onto the roadway, please clean them up. Leaving grass clippings in the road is dangerous for cyclists and motorcyclists, it's bad for the environment, and it is also against the law. Let's look out for each other and keep those clippings in the yard where they can nourish the soil.
